Tomáš Šoltés Abstract Is Slovakia competitive within the European area? Since other European countries represent the main and direct competitors of Slovak republic, this paper analyzes the competitive position of Slovak republic from the view of 4 competitiveness measures. It takes into consideration two competitiveness indices prepared by renowned international organizations active in the field of national competitiveness measurement (WEF, IMD), as well as two characteristics identified by most theoretical and practical approaches to be the most suitable measures of a country’s competitiveness – GDP growth and productivity. Based on these 4 measures, the paper presents a simple ranking of Slovak republic for each of the measures.
