Abstract

Workplace incivility is a workplace hazard which has received a widespread recognition as an inevitable experience among workers, students, family members, and associations where people interact or operate. The study hinged on the conservation of resource theory and the social learning theory adopted the descriptive survey research design.  Data were collected through the questionnaire from 73 nurses in Alimosho General Hospital Lagos State, Nigeria. The findings of the collated data revealed that there is a relationship between supervisor incivility and satisfaction of nurses (r=0.743, p>.000), and also, that there exists a positive and significant relationship between colleague incivility and job satisfaction with (r=0.681, p>.000) which implies that incivility from colleagues will affect the satisfaction of workers on the delegation of duties, responsibilities and inter-personal relationships on their jobs. Based on the results, the study concluded that work incivility from supervisors and colleagues will not only create a toxic workplace for nurses but will also affect their satisfaction and mental wellbeing which may create an unstable way of life for victims. It therefore recommended that management of the hospital should prioritize the mental health and wellbeing of nurses through continuous observations of their job activities and regular trainings on ethical interactions and appropriate professional ways of working should be conducted.
